Terms and Conditions

General terms and conditions (valid for all new bookings from November 2022):

• The minimum rental period is 7 days (1 week).
• Fully comprehensive insurance without excess incl.
• Local taxes and fees incl.
• 1 additional driver at no extra charge.
• Statutory liability insurance incl.
• Theft insurance incl.
• Unlimited mileage.
• No credit card / no deposit required.
• Handover and return at the airport included.
• Handover and return to the hotel / holiday home / apartment (Handover and return of the rental car is only possible on the north coast of the island of Corfu between the towns of Sidari and Kassiopi/Avlaki!) without additional costs. Please note return to the hotel / holiday home / apartment is only possible until 7:00 a.m., even if this means that the 24- Hour cycle is shorter. If you want to sleep longer, our staff will explain to you when you hand over the vehicle where you can deposit the vehicle key on the day of return.
• Minimum age 21 years, maximum 74 years!
• Driver’s license valid for at least 1 year.
• It is not allowed to leave the island of Corfu by rental car!
• Pets are not allowed.
• Vehicles may not be used in rough terrain.
• 15% deposit by bank transfer (bank account Germany) and the remaining payment only as cash on site when the vehicle is handed over. No credit or debit card payment necessary or possible.

Booking:
With your online booking you send us a binding registration. The booking is only considered accepted by us if it has been confirmed by us in writing by post, fax or email with the booking confirmation / invoice (invoice / voucher). If the category you have selected is fully booked (in this case you will of course be informed as soon as possible), your booking will expire without any entitlement to the fulfillment of the contract.

Payment without risk!
A deposit of 15% of the rental price must be transferred to a German bank account immediately after receipt of the invoice, stating the booking and invoice number. The bank details can be found on the invoice. Please note: Bank charges incurred for a transfer must be paid by you. This is the only way to ensure that the exact amount of the down payment is received. The remaining amount will only be paid in cash on site when the vehicle is handed over. The down payment or the final payment when handing over the vehicle by credit card, EC card, etc. is not possible! Please have the remaining amount ready when you hand over the vehicle.

In the event of default in payment, we are entitled to demand the full amount. In the event of a general delay in payment, we reserve the right to cancel your booking at your expense, whereby any cancellation costs incurred will be borne by the tenant / customer.

Short term bookings:
In the case of short-term bookings (7 working days or more before the start of the rental), proof of payment of the deposit amount must be sent to us by fax or email after the booking confirmation / invoice has been sent before the start of the rental. A printout from online banking, a cash deposit slip or a transfer form confirmed by the bank is accepted as proof of payment.

When you send the invoice, you will receive the rental car voucher for the vehicle category you have booked in advance. This voucher is only valid after receipt of the deposit or after sending proof of payment for short-term bookings. You present the rental car voucher to our staff when you hand over the rental car. If payment is not received, this does not mean that you automatically cancel the contract and that we continue to be entitled to fulfillment of the contract and payment of the rental price.

Your booking information:
The booking is made on the basis of the rental data you have provided.
TIP: If you are arriving by plane, book landing time + 30 minutes later. If you yourself calculate longer waiting times for baggage claim, etc., you are not entitled to an earlier vehicle handover if baggage claim at Corfu Airport is faster than you thought. In this case you are responsible for any waiting times.

Documents to be carried:
When handing over the vehicle, you must show a valid ID and a valid driver’s license. Copies are not accepted! The ID, driver’s license and rental contract must be carried with you every time you drive the vehicle. If you have specified a second driver, this rule also applies to him. Failure to comply will result in very high penalties in the event of a police check.

Early delivery or late return:
Please note: If the vehicle is handed over between 10:00 p.m. and 00:00 midnight and between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m., a late surcharge of EUR 40.00 will be charged in addition to the remaining payment when the vehicle is handed over. The remaining payment is to be paid in cash on site when the vehicle is handed over.

Fuel options:
The return of the vehicle must be carried out with the tank filling with which it was handed over. Level differences are reloaded. driveCORFU reserves the right to provide you with a higher than booked vehicle category (free upgrade) without additional calculation.

Flight time specification:
If your flight details change during a rental car transfer at the airport, please let us know the final landing time at least 1 week before the rental date. In the event of short-term changes in flight times, you are obliged to inform us immediately by telephone so that a new disposition can be made. Any earlier or later vehicle transfer is only possible if this allows the daily disposition. For short-term flight changes, you must accept any waiting times at the airport. Please do not leave the airport lobby in case of a flight time change. Be sure to wait in the airport lobby as we will only be there waiting for you.

Car delivery at the airport:
driveCORFU does not maintain an expensive airport counter, but expects you personally in the arrivals hall. An employee will welcome you, accompany you to the vehicle and hand over the vehicle to you. Thus, we can offer you much cheaper rental rates. Meeting point is always the airport lobby / arrivals hall behind the suitcases. Look for a sign (DIN-A4) with your name. If we miss you, please wait in the lobby and keep (if available and number indicated) your mobile phone ready to receive.

Short-term bookings directly at the airport are not possible!

Vehicle handover or return at the hotel:
When the vehicle is handed over at the hotel, the meeting point is the reception and, for holiday accommodation, the entrance. Returns at the hotel or at a holiday accommodation are only possible in the morning until 7:00 a.m. If you want to sleep longer, you can leave the vehicle key at the reception. Alternatively, you can let us know when the vehicle is handed over if you want to return the vehicle the evening before (e.g. 10:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.).

Cancellation:
A cancellation must generally be made in writing; this is possible at any time before the booking date, whereby the following cancellation fees apply. Please note that cancellations on Sundays and public holidays are only considered received on the following working day. We recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance with a travel insurance company.
– 15% cancellation fee up to 3 days before the start of the rental period
– 100% cancellation fee from the 2nd day before the start of the rental period

Extensions / Delayed vehicle return:
Rent extensions: If you want a rental extension on site, this must be announced by telephone in the office in Corfu no later than 2 days before the official end of the rental period. If an extension is possible, the remaining rental fee must be paid in cash at the driveCORFU office in Agios Spiridon near Acharavi (North Corfu).

Late vehicle return: Unauthorized extensions without registration and confirmation from driveCORFU are not permitted. The end of the rental period specified by you and confirmed by us is decisive. If a vehicle is returned later than booked, the costs incurred are to be paid in cash on site or will be charged later by invoice. So please make sure that the rental car is returned on time. This regulation is necessary because the vehicle you have rented goes back to the scheduled rental immediately on the day of your return and the next renter must receive his vehicle on time. CAUTION! If the return time is exceeded, there is no longer any insurance cover and you are personally liable! In the event of a police check, driving without insurance can result in very high fines.

The following costs may apply to a late return:

• Staff costs for waiting times (per started hour EUR 15,00)
• Taxi fees of the new renter, which must be pre-stretched by us.
• Another rental day for the vehicle you have booked.
• Costs for any legal claims of the new tenant.
• Personal liability, as the vehicle is driven without insurance coverage.

Notes on the insurance:
The insurance includes fully comprehensive insurance without excess, liability insurance, fire and theft insurance. The driver must be at least 21 years old, no more than 74 years old and must have held a driver’s license for at least 1 year. Underbody damage, tire damage, key damage or loss of keys are not covered by fully comprehensive insurance. In the event of tire damage, the renter must arrange for tire changes, repairs or replacements himself. There is a spare wheel in every vehicle and almost every petrol station on Corfu offers the repair or sale of tires. Vehicles may not be used in rough terrain. Furthermore, willful destruction by the tenant (e.g. on the interior, upholstery, etc.) is not insured and must be paid for by you on site. Vehicles are to be returned to the lessor as they have been taken over. In the event of excessive vehicle contamination (rubbish residues, sand, etc. in the vehicle), the renter must pay a separate cleaning fee of EUR 50.00 in cash upon return. The coverage of the liability insurance is EURO (€) 1 million for personal injury and property damage and EURO (€) 1,000.00 for broken glass. We recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance.

There is no insurance cover if you drive a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, intoxicants, illness-related inability to drive, harmful medication or if you drive without a valid driver’s license. Furthermore, there is no insurance cover if you drive the vehicle on gravel roads or on roads whose surface, size or condition poses a risk to the vehicle, such as the beach, impassable roads, forest paths and mountains, or roads that are not approved. The insurance coverage is limited to the area of the island of Corfu. Leaving the island of Corfu is not permitted – no insurance cover!

IMPORTANT! Any vehicle damage must be reported immediately by the vehicle renter to driveCORFU rent a car in Agios Spiridon by phone or email, as an expert from the insurance company must be commissioned to assess the damage at the location of the damage. Corresponding contact details will be given to you with an information sheet when you hand over the vehicle. If damage is not reported, there is no insurance cover.

Leaving the island of Corfu by rental car:
You are NOT allowed to leave the island of Corfu with the rental car, as there is NO insurance cover outside of the island of Corfu.

To be carried by yourself include:

• parking fees
• parking ticket / traffic ticket
• fuel
• Damage to tires
• Loss or damage car keys
• Costs arising from improper use of the in-vehicle equipment (e.g. battery failure if the lights are not switched off and the engine is running, etc.)

ATTENTION – IMPORTANT NOTE IN CASE OF RECEIVING A PENALTY, E.G. DUE TO WRONG PARKING:
In your own interest, please park your rental car only in approved parking spaces and adhere to the parking times and parking fees! Illegal parking is severely punished by the police in Corfu. However, if you should ever receive a parking ticket, it is imperative that you pay it to a post office in Corfu. If you do not pay a ticket to the police in a post office in Corfu, the police / fine office will demand the amount from you at your place of residence. Please note that the penalty will then increase by three times for you!
